Privacy policy

This policy covers the BusPe website (buspe.app) and the BusPe Android app. “BusPe”, “we” and “us” mean the team that runs them. Questions: support@buspe.app.

The short version

  • You can use the website without an account.
  • The website uses cookies for analytics and Google ads. You can choose “Only essential” to switch those off.
  • Location is used only when you ask for nearby stops or buses, and the website does not store it.
  • The app stores your account, trips and alarms so its features work. You can delete all of it from the app.
  • We do not sell your personal data.

The website

What we collect

  • Searches and page views. When you search for a route or stop, the text you type is sent to our server to find matches. It is not linked to your identity.
  • Location, only when you ask. If you tap “Stops near me” or “Near me”, your browser asks for permission and sends your position to our server to find the nearest stops, or centres the map on you. We do not store it.
  • Technical logs. Our hosting provider (Vercel) records requests, including IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running.

Cookies, analytics and ads

  • Google Analytics uses cookies to count visits and see which pages are useful.
  • Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights measure page views and loading speed without cookies.
  • Microsoft Clarity, if enabled, records how pages are used (clicks and scrolling, with text fields masked). It loads only after you choose “Accept”.
  • Google AdSense shows ads that pay for BusPe. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services; you can turn off personalised ads in Google’s ad settings.

The first time you visit, a notice lets you choose Accept or Only essential. Analytics and ad cookies stay off, and Google shows only non-personalised ads, until you choose Accept. “Only essential” keeps them off. Change your choice at any time: .

The site also keeps two small items in your browser’s storage: your cookie choice and your light or dark theme.

The Android app

What the app stores

  • Account. The app can create an account for your device automatically. You can sign in with an email one-time code or with Google; we then store your email address. You may add a username and profile photo.
  • Location. With your permission, to show nearby stops and buses. While a stop alarm or trip is running, the app may use location in the background so it can alert you before your stop. You can turn location off in your phone’s settings; route search still works.
  • Trips and alarms. When you start a trip we store the route, times and destination. During a trip the app sends periodic positions, which are private to you and deleted after 14 days. Stop alarms are kept on your phone.
  • Feedback you send, with the app version and platform.
  • Advertising ID. The app shows ads through Google AdMob, which may use your device’s advertising ID to show and measure ads.

Earlier beta versions of the app included optional games and points. These are not part of BusPe at launch, and any points data is deleted with your account.

Who we share data with

  • Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage for the app and website.
  • Vercel: hosting for the website.
  • Google: Analytics, AdSense, AdMob, Google sign-in and Google Play.
  • Microsoft: Clarity, only if enabled and you accept.
  • OpenWeather: the app shows the weather for your map area; the request goes through our server, so your location is not sent to OpenWeather directly.

These providers may process data outside India. We do not send your personal data to the Delhi Open Transit Data platform; we only download public transit data from it.

How long we keep data

  • App account data: until you delete your account.
  • Trip position points: 14 days.
  • Website analytics: according to the retention settings of each analytics provider.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal data, and withdraw consent at any time. In the app, go to Profile → Settings → Delete account to delete everything immediately, or follow the steps on the account deletion page. For anything else, email support@buspe.app; we reply within 30 days. If you are in India you may also have rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Children

BusPe is not directed at children. If you are under 18, please use the app with a parent or guardian’s permission. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections. In the database, row-level security means an account can read and change only its own records.

Changes

We will update the date at the top of this page when this policy changes, and note major changes in the app.
